Although it follows the same plotline as other books of its genre, the Blue Bloods series is fresh and intriguing. Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz Book Review. The other things I enjoyed about the Blue Bloods series was that you got to see the characters grow throughout. Melissa de la Cruz's vampire mythology, set against the glitzy backdrop of New York City, is a juicy and intoxicating read. Blue Bloods is the first book in the series of the same name. As I said, it only really had a major impact in the last two books, because it removed most of the tension. I have to admit that I wasn't really sure if I would enjoy Blue Bloods but the book was actually great! Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods #1) by Melissa De La Cruz Published March 27, 2007 by Hyperion 302 pages. It had an amazing plot with characters to relate to and laugh with. I had read the first four books in the Blue Blood Series by Melissa de la Cruz back in April of 2010. When I started reading Blue Bloods, I liked it immediately. But as a quick disclaimer I should say that while I adore this book, and highly recommend it and the next two or three after it, I cannot recommend any others. Though a bit primitive, I think some of this artwork is better than what you see in the graphic novel (and no, the artwork is not done by the same person).
